BE PREPARED 

Individual gear

    Gear that each camper needs on *every* camping trip

       ____ backpack with external or internal frame

      ____ ground cloth

      ____ sleeping pad (foam or inflatable w/ foam like Thermarest)

      ____ sleeping bag

      ____ change of clothes

      ____ hiking boots or sturdy shoes

      ____ coat or sweater appropriate for the trip

               best: fleece jacket

      ____ rain gear - waterproof coat or poncho

               best: waterproof+breatheable shell coat (no insulation) with hood

      ____ hat or hood for rain

      ____ hat for sun

      ____ sunscreen

      ____ bug repellant

      ____ plate, cup and utensils

      ____ pocketknife

      ____ flashlight - best: LED headlamp

      ____ spare batteries

      ____ minor first-aid kit (bandaids, cloth tape, antibiotic, wet towels)

      ____ toilet kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, small towell)

      ____ small roll of toilet paper in a baggie

      ____ matches in waterproof container

      ____ compass

      ____ 50' of 1/8" nylon rope

      ____ water - at least 2 quarts per hundred pounds of body weight

      ____ snack food for hiking

      ____ scout handbook (unless we're backpacking)

      ____ paper and pen/pencil

      ____ 2 large garbage bags (for trash, wet clothes or emergency poncho)

      ____ $20 (not more) for meals on the way and back

      ____ this list, checked off and stored in the backpack


    Optional

      ____ sunglasses

      ____ camera

      ____ FRS radio (talkabout)

      ____ butt pad (18x18" foam for sitting on in camp)

      ____ gloves

      ____ long underwear (poly, not cotton)
